Major General Viktor Yahun, former Deputy Head of Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) in 2014–2015 and Director of the Agency for Security Sector Reform, shared his opinions with Espreso TV.“We had information about upgrades they (Russian troops – ed.) had been testing recently and knew about them. I think our people are working on this, although the interceptor drone program was mainly focused on older Shahed and Geran drones. The ones used now are modernized and fully manufactured in Russia, with changes in speed and flight altitude that allow them to bypass our air defenses. I think this is a wake-up call, and active work is underway to counter it. I would not be too happy if I were the enemy, thinking they have succeeded. I believe this is a one-off event,” Yahun said on Espreso TV.At the same time, Major General Viktor Yahun highlighted a concerning trend.“They’ve always said they would target the bridges across the Dnipro. If the strike on the Kremenchuk bridge is exactly what they started doing, it shows they realized they cannot cross the Dnipro and are trying to separate the right-bank part of Ukraine from the left-bank part. This is a very dangerous trend, in my opinion. It must be stopped once and for all to demonstrate that we can protect all Ukrainian territory under our control,” Yahun said.On the night of September 6, Russian forces launched a massive wave of drones and ballistic missiles at Ukrainian territory. Overnight, Kyiv came under attack, leaving casualties and injuries, with debris striking the Cabinet of Ministers building. Kryvyi Rih was also hit by ballistic missiles, resulting in deaths. Drone strikes damaged infrastructure in Dnipropetrovsk and Poltava regions.Russia also attacked Ukraine’s Kremenchuk overnight, causing 40 explosions over 4 hours.
