He made the remarks to journalists after the National Prayer Breakfast in Kyiv, Interfax-Ukraine reported.“This is an interesting time. I think you’ve read and seen what’s happening on the diplomatic front. It’s very hard work… We are working very diligently on this,” Kellogg said.He described Donald Trump as a “president of peace” who wants to end death and destruction, citing as examples a meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska and talks with European leaders in the Oval Office.“You see how quickly the process we’re working on is moving forward, and it’s moving very, very quickly. We hope to reach a point in the near future when we will secure, for lack of a better term, security guarantees. This work is still ongoing,” Kellogg noted.Speaking about the heavy losses in the war, Trump’s envoy stressed the need “to put an end to it.”“You want to bring it to an end, to a fair, reasonable end in the future. And I hope that a year from now, at the next Independence Day—the 35th anniversary of Ukraine—the next prayer breakfast will probably take place after that. Things will be different, Ukraine will be a different country when we gather again. And any role I can play, or any role we can all play, I consider very, very important,” he said.Kellogg acknowledged that ending the war is “very, very difficult.” However, he argued it is important to “give credit to many people—whether it’s President Trump, Macron of France, Merz of Germany, Meloni of Italy, Starmer of Britain, or Stubb of Finland.”“Everyone understands the importance of peace in this region and in the world, because what we don’t want to happen—what I don’t want to happen—I have four grandchildren. I don’t want to drag them into yet another war,” he added. He concluded by calling the prayer breakfast an important event for him and stressed the universality of religion across different spheres.U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg arrived in Kyiv on August 24 for a two-day visit to participate in events marking Ukraine's Independence Day.
