Ukrainian detained in Italy may have coordinated Nord Stream pipeline attack

German publications ARD, Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Zeit reported the information.Italian police arrested Ukrainian Serhii Kuznetsov on Wednesday evening in the Rimini area based on a European arrest warrant at the request of Germany's Federal Prosecutor's Office. Media reported that he was vacationing in Italy.In the arrest warrant for Kuznetsov, cited by German media, investigators suggest that the man took on the task of managing the operation against the Nord Streams and the sabotage group during the operation.The Ukrainian allegedly was part of the crew of the sailing yacht Andromeda, which was supposedly used for sabotage on the gas pipelines, according to the report.The warrant states that the suspects installed at least four explosive devices weighing 14 to 27 kilograms each on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines at a depth of 70-80 meters."The explosives were allegedly a mixture of RDX and HMX, and the bombs were allegedly equipped with timer detonators," writes ARD.According to investigators from Germany's Federal Criminal Police Office and Federal Police, Kuznetsov allegedly disembarked from the Andromeda on land on September 22, where he was picked up by a driver and taken back to Ukraine.In the arrest warrant, Kuznetsov is called an accomplice to the crime and charged with "anti-constitutional sabotage," "intentional detonation of explosives" and "destruction of buildings." The Ukrainian could face up to 15 years in prison in Germany.
