According to media reports, 21-year-old Michael Gloss was the son of a CIA official.The Order of Courage is a Russian award typically given to Russian citizens for acts of bravery during emergencies, disasters, or wars.Journalists reported that Gloss’s parents cried when Witkoff handed them the medal.For the American envoy, the moment "was not about who he fought for, but rather the memories of our children" the network noted, adding that "for Witkoff, who lost a son in the opioid epidemic, losing a child is a traumatic experience that transcends geopolitics."The CIA said the family of the American who died in the war endured “an unimaginable personal tragedy in the spring of 2024.” The young man struggled with mental health issues.“CIA considers Michael’s passing to be a private family matter for the Gloss family – not a national security issue,” the statement read.U.S. President Donald Trump stated on July 31 that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, will make another visit to Russia.
