Yurii Romaniuk, international affairs expert and head of the NGO Ukraine in NATO, stated this on Espreso TV.“We shouldn’t expect any positive scenarios for Ukraine after the Trump-Putin meeting. Everyone understands this, even Trump and his team, who call it a first, introductory meeting. They know they won’t get anything from Putin and have fallen for the nonsense Witkoff brought from Moscow. They basically blinded him there and bought him off so that Witkoff would arrange this meeting at any cost. Trump took the bait and immediately started shouting about a meeting with Putin and some breakthrough in talks with Russia. Then this concept changed three times,” Romaniuk explained. The expert stressed that the August 15 meeting could end in a complete diplomatic collapse for the U.S.“Even Secretary of State Rubio has to play along with Trump’s administration, knowing full well that a total diplomatic failure will happen in Alaska and that he and Putin will agree on nothing. Now they’re using this meeting to overshadow the Trump-Epstein files scandal. The entire U.S. media, the opposition, and even members of Trump’s own party will switch their attention to these talks,” he noted. He emphasized again that Ukraine should expect no positive outcome. Despite its statements, Trump’s administration has not introduced sanctions against Russia or extra tariffs against China.“It’s important to note: sanctions against Russia are not being imposed. Tariffs against China are not being imposed. Ukraine is not getting long-range missiles, they’re not being supplied. And after the Trump-Putin meeting, they could stop any missile supplies, even those paid for by Europe. Ukraine’s situation after this meeting will definitely get worse, even compared to a few weeks ago in U.S.-Ukraine relations. We need to understand that history is repeating itself, this is Munich 1938 all over again,” Romaniuk concluded.Trump–Putin meeting: what is knowOn August 8, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine would involve some territorial exchanges.Later, the American president announced that he would meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, August 15.Before the Trump–Putin meeting, senior officials from the U.S., Ukraine, and European countries are expected to hold talks to coordinate joint positions. The media also reported that Volodymyr Zelenskyy might join the U.S. leader’s meeting with the Russian leader.
