Ukrainian military and political observer Oleksandr Kovalenko shared his assessment of Russia’s latest large-scale attack on Kyiv, emphasizing that the timing of the strike was deliberately calculated to maximize civilian casualties.According to Kovalenko, last night’s missile and drone assault was not just a typical escalation — it was a direct, calculated response by Vladimir Putin to Donald Trump's recent ten-day ultimatum on Ukraine. “In response to the ultimatum in 10 days, Putin launched a targeted, concentrated strike on the capital of Ukraine,” the original report stated.Kovalenko noted that Russia launched 309 Shahed-136 drones, including decoy UAVs like Gerbera and Parodiya, along with eight Iskander-K cruise missiles. “Five missiles, targeted, at a residential building,” he stressed, calling attention to the cruelty of the attack, which struck a multi-story residential building after bypassing Ukraine’s air defenses. What Kovalenko found especially cynical was the one-hour gap between the two waves of the assault. The air raid alarm from the drone attack on Kyiv ended at 03:18, and by 04:29, the alarm was triggered again due to the incoming cruise missiles. He interpreted this pause as a deliberate move by Russia to increase the death toll.“This temporary slack suggests that the Russian occupiers gave people an hour to return from shelters, the metro, basements, undress, go to bed, fall asleep, and then there was a missile strike,” he explained.Kovalenko condemned the operation as “a blatant, undeniable act of terror, cold-blooded, inhuman, immoral,” and emphasized that such actions require the harshest possible international response. He also pointed out that the strike was not just an attack on Ukraine — it was another open defiance of Donald Trump’s peace initiatives and a clear statement from Putin.
