This was stated on air with Espreso by diplomat Oleh Shamsur, former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States and France."Even if today, July 14, at 5:00 p.m., Trump makes the most favorable statements for Ukraine, it is still too early to talk about a point of no return. We may hear more later. Indeed, now is a turning point. What can happen in the realm of the possible? In my opinion, on the one hand, Trump still wants to establish some new kind of relationship with Russia, which he has left open to talk to Putin as a partner. It is already clear to Trump that the Kremlin leader’s brazen, defiant behavior and disregard for the promises he has already made are creating reputational risks for the current U.S. president," Shamsur commented.According to him, Trump is irritated and angry, and this emotional factor strongly influences the decisions he makes. This could work in Ukraine’s favor."I would point out that what’s being talked about now is achieving a ceasefire, a truce. But what comes after that remains a big question. We would like to hear that Trump and our European partners will no longer say that 'the main thing is to stop the war for 30 days, and then we’ll see.' Now it’s clear that the conditions floated by Trump are unacceptable for Ukraine. So everything must be considered in a continuum — what will come next. And right now, it is indeed very important what actions Trump will take, if they are announced, both in terms of providing us with aid and in applying sanctions against Russia," the diplomat noted.Shamsur added that it would be good to see some concrete actions from the Europeans, because, as Trump says, the main direction of these actions should be the accumulation of funds needed to buy weapons from the U.S. So far, Trump has stated he is ready to sell weapons, and therefore, it’s on these absolutely realistic elements that the focus should lie.On July 11, U.S. President Donald Trump said he was disappointed in Russia and promised to make an important statement regarding it on Monday, July 14.
