President Donald Trump has said that weapons supplies to Ukraine should be restored. Someone had blocked it before, someone else unblocked it, but didn’t send it where it should have gone... We've seen it all happened before. Multiple times. These are political decisions, but according to U.S. law, intentionally stopping weapons shipments after a Congressional decision is grounds for impeachment of the president and prison for a bureaucrat, sooner or later. The decision is correct. It would have been even better not to give the enemy the opportunity to use this pause for massive airstrikes on civilians... But the problem hasn’t gone away. All these "situational maneuvers" are possible only until the end of the year, the financial year — until the end of September (essentially, two months of supplies remain). And by the way, there will be money left, but they may get annulled. And then what? The U.S. defense budget proposal currently contains no funding for Ukraine. Other legislative initiatives have no chance of being implemented at present. Discussions mention possible appropriations for 2026 — at most up to $800 million for Lend-Lease — none. Packages — none, and frankly, unlikely to happen...So, let’s not emotionally shake up the nerves, which have already been strained, and instead focus on finding solutions for how to finance Ukraine's defense after October 1st this year.SourceAbout the author: Valeriy Chalyi, Ukrainian diplomat, former Ambassador of Ukraine to the U.S.The editorial team does not always share the opinions expressed by blog authors.
