Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said that the meeting of the foreign ministers of the United States, Ukraine, France, the UK and Germany on Wednesday did not take place because "they failed to bring positions closer" on some issues.

Details:Peskov was commenting on the postponement of talks between foreign ministers on the war in Ukraine, which were to take place in London.

"As far as we understand, it has not yet been possible to bring the positions closer on some issues, so this meeting has not taken place," Peskov said.

The Kremlin spokesman added that the Russian side continues its contacts with the Americans.

"We have no contacts with the Europeans, nor with the Ukrainians. Although President Putin remains open to such contacts in the interests of a settlement [of war]," Peskov said.

Peskov also answered a question about whether Trump's special envoy, Steven Witkoff, would visit Russia this week.

"If this happens, we will inform you. For now, I cannot say anything specific on this topic. The situation is quite dynamic. Everything is changing very quickly. We will inform you, as they say, after the fact," Peskov said.

• It was expected that negotiations for a peaceful settlement would take place in London on 23 April at the level of the foreign ministers of five states.
• However, the UK Foreign Office later announced that the ministerial talks had been postponed and meetings would now be held at the level of senior officials.
