Designated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has stated that Ukraine will be able to become a member of the EU or NATO only after the war is over.

Details: A country at war cannot become a member of NATO or the European Union, the politician said.

He emphasised that the commitment to join the European Union and the prospect of NATO membership remain intact.

"But for both of these events to happen, the war must first end," Merz said.
