Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that Ukraine is not merely requesting, but is ready to purchase additional air defence systems from the United States.

Quote: "We discussed this with the President of the United States, President Trump – Ukraine is not just asking, we are ready to purchase these additional systems. Only powerful weapons can truly be relied upon to protect life when you have a neighbour like Russia."

Details: Zelenskyy said that air defence is the top priority. He thanked the partners who are already helping Ukraine.

Quote:"Today, from right here in Kryvyi Rih, I addressed the participants of the Ramstein meeting in Brussels. Our top priority is air defence: additional systems and missiles for them – to protect lives and our cities. We are counting on our partners’ decisions. The world has the necessary systems, and what’s needed is a political decision for them to work here in Ukraine." 

Background:

• Prior to this, Zelenskyy, speaking to participants of a meeting of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group, also known as the Ramstein format, in Brussels, urged the allies to strengthen Ukraine with ten additional Patriot systems. "We truly need it. Ten Patriot systems – the free world has them. What is needed now are political decisions to make them work for peace. We need that result," the president stressed.
• In March, US President Donald Trump promised Zelenskyy to collaborate on securing Patriot air defence systems for Ukraine.
• Ukraine's Defence Minister Rustem Umierov stated that efforts are currently underway with other countries to acquire an additional Patriot air defence system.
