President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth will participate in the Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting (also known as the Ramstein format) in Brussels on 11 April via video link.

Details: Pistorius confirmed that Hegseth would not attend the meeting in person but would join remotely.

Quote:"About 40 countries will be represented today, including the United States, whose delegation is here. Our American counterpart Pete Hegseth will join us digitally. I am particularly pleased about this, as well as the participation of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy."

Earlier, media reports emerged stating that Hegseht might skip the Ramstein meeting.

  Background:

• The Ukraine Defence Contact Group meeting is being held in Brussels on 11 April under the joint leadership of the United Kingdom and Germany.
• The previous meeting – the first since the change of administration in the United States – also took place in Brussels on 12 February and was chaired by the United Kingdom. At that Ramstein meeting, Hegseth declared that a return to Ukraine's pre-2014 borders is not a realistic goal and that the US does not consider NATO membership for Ukraine a realistic outcome of a negotiated war settlement.
• Under the Biden administration, Ramstein meetings were previously chaired by the United States.
