PACE urges holding Russia accountable for Wagner PMC crimes against Ukraine

In a resolution passed on 28 January, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe PACE emphasised that Russia bears full responsibility for crimes committed against Ukraine by illegal private military companies, specifically Wagner Group and Redut.

Details The Assembly emphasised that after the Russian Federation launched the fullscale invasion of Ukraine, Russian private military companies, such as Wagner Group and Redut, whose very existence is illegal in Russia, have committed multiple extrajudicial executions and acts of torture, including mass executions of Ukrainian civilians and POWs, as well as intentional attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Due to its acknowledged ties and the financial and operational support given to Wagner Group during its involvement in the war, including the use of pardoned prisoners as combatants and ground coordination with regular forces, it was also emphasised that the Russian Federation bears full international responsibility for these actions.
