French President Emmanuel Macron has warned that Russias fullscale war against Ukraine will not end tomorrow or the day after, despite promises by US President Donald Trump to bring it to a quick conclusion.
Source Macron in an address to the French Armed Forces, as reported by European Pravda with reference to French news agency AFP Details Macron had delivered the speech in the municipality of CessonSvign in northwestern France before Trump took the oath of office and became the 47th president of the United States on Monday, 20 January.
The French president emphasised that the war in Ukraine will not end tomorrow or the day after and stated that it is crucial to provide Ukraine with the means to endure and to enter any future talks from a position of strength.
Quote from Macron The challenge after the fighting ends will be to provide Ukraine with guarantees against any return to war on its territory and guarantees for our own security.
More details In his speech, Macron also called on the government and military to submit by May proposals on how to mobilise more young volunteers to support the Armed Forces if necessary.
Background During his election campaign, Donald Trump promised to end the war in Ukraine before his inauguration.
He also promised to end the war within 24 hours of taking office.
Recently, Trumps team acknowledged that this task is much more difficult and could take months to complete.
In his inaugural address, Donald Trump did not mention Ukraine or Russia but vowed to be a peacemaker and a unifier.
