Ukraines President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said that he had a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on Monday, 13 January.
Source Zelenskyy on X Twitter, as reported by European Pravda Zelenskyy said he had discussed the situation on the battlefield with Macron, particularly the progress of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk operation, and that they had agreed to work closely with allies to develop effective security guarantees.
Quote As one such guarantee, we discussed the French initiative to deploy military contingents in Ukraine.
We addressed practical steps for its implementation, potential expansion, and the involvement of other nations in this effort, he added.
In December, Zelenskyy acknowledged that the idea of deploying a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine as a deterrent against another Russian attack had been discussed during meetings in Brussels in December, and said he was already seeing a positive response from some leaders.
Details Roderich Kiesewetter, the security spokesman for Germanys main opposition party, the CDU, believes that Germany, as the largest economy in the EU, should take part in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine if one is formed after the war.
It has also been recently reported that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will visit Ukraine in the coming weeks to discuss the possibility of deploying an international peacekeeping force after the war with Russia is over.
