Transit of Russian oil through Ukraine drops to a minimum

Ukraine transported around 11.36 million tonnes of Russian oil through the southern branch of the Druzhba pipeline in 2024.
Source ExPro, a consulting company that focuses on the development of Ukraines oil and gas and energy sectors Quote Compared to last year, the volume of Russian oil transit has decreased by 16.
This is the lowest level recorded at least since 2014 and likely the lowest since Ukraine gained independence in 1991, the publication reports.
The largest volume of Russian oil last year was delivered to Hungary over 4.7 million tonnes almost the same as in 2023.
Slovakia received 3.9 million tonnes of oil 15, and Czechia 2.7 million tonnes 35.
ExPro estimates that Ukraine earned nearly UAH 10 billion US250 million from the transit of Russian oil in 2024.
In comparison, revenue from oil transit in 2023 amounted to about UAH 9.4 billion US255 million.
Oil transit from Russia continues into January.
In the first week of January, the average daily volume of transit was around 34,900 tonnes, 14 higher than in December.
Background Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that halting the oil transit via the Druzhba pipeline would be a violation of Ukraines commitments under the Energy Charter Treaty and the Association Agreement with the European Union.
The Verkhovna Rada Ukrainian parliament registered a draft law banning the transit of Russian oil and gas through Ukraine during martial law.
Currently, Ukraine transports Russian oil through its territory via the Druzhba pipeline to European countries.
The current contract is valid until the end of 2029.
