US President Joe Biden has stated that there has been a "significant number of Democrats and Republicans" in Congress who would not agree to attempts to halt assistance to Ukraine.

Quote : "I know that there are a significant number of Democrats and Republicans on the [Capitol] Hill who think we should continue to support Ukraine. 

It is my hope and expectation that they will speak up if [Donald] Trump decides to cut off funding."

Details : Biden also emphasised that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is currently in a "tough shape" due to the exhausting war and economic pressure from the West.

In this context, Biden stressed the importance of not allowing Putin to regroup and continue his aggression.

Quote : "He [Putin] has got his own problems economically, significant problems economically, as well as politically at home."

Details : Therefore, Biden stated that he is doing everything within his power and authority to ensure Ukraine has the necessary advantages to maintain its independence.

Background : In spring 2024, Donald Trump, during a campaign rally, criticised the extent of support for Ukraine, distorting the facts, and said that if elected president, he would immediately "have that settled".

• Earlier, Keith Kellogg said that he was planning visits to listen to both sides in the full-scale war. It was also reported that he had been due to come to Kyiv in January, but the visit was postponed.
• Trump has previously stated that in his efforts to settle the Russo-Ukrainian war, he "will not abandon Ukraine".
