Kherson State University damaged in Russian attack on Kherson

A Russian attack caused damage to Kherson State University's building. The university's walls and classrooms were damaged, windows and doors shattered.

Source: Oleksandr Spivakovskyi, Rector of Kherson State University; Oleksandr Prokudin, Head of Kherson Oblast Military Administration

Details: The video shows mounds of bricks and other debris on the site of the educational institution, which in some areas has massive breaches in the walls. Other parts of the building were less severely damaged, with windows and doors smashed in the Russian bombardment.

Oleksandr Spivakovskyi, the university's rector, stated that the attack destroyed the gallery of prior heads of Kherson State University, which has a 107-year history.

Quote from Oleksandr Spivakovskyi:"I know about Nazism from history. I feel the effects of Ruscism at my alma mater. Even in the gallery of rectors who have shaped its 107-year glory. But what matters most is people's lives."

More details: Oleksandr Prokudin added that no one was injured in the attack on the university's territory.

Background:

  • On 5 January, Russian troops attacked Kherson, in particular its suburbs, Korabelnyi and Dniprovskyi districts.
  • As of the evening of 5 January, six people were reported injured in the attack on Kherson, and one was killed in Komyshany. In addition, at least 22 civilian objects were damaged in the oblast, including houses, administrative buildings, garages and vehicles.
