Polish Foreign Minister Radosaw Sikorski has welcomed Ukraines suspension of Russian gas transit.
Source Sikorski on X Twitter, as reported by European Pravda Details Sikorski said that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin had spent billions on the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline to circumvent Ukraine and blackmail Eastern Europe with the threat of cutting off gas supplies.
Quote Today Ukraine cut off his ability to export gas direct to the EU.
Another victory after the enlargement of NATO by Finland and Sweden, the Polish foreign minister said.
Background On 1 January, Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas, which several EU countries and unrecognised Transnistria in Moldova had continued to receive.
Over the past week, the gas issue has been the subject of sharp statements by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who until recently had hoped that Ukraine would extend the agreement or agree to the idea of transiting Azerbaijani gas, which would mean that Azerbaijan would buy the necessary volumes from Russia.
Fico also threatened to retaliate against Ukraine by cutting off electricity imports, which is important for Ukraine in the context of Russias constant attacks on energy system facilities.
The Ukrainian government believes that Bratislava will not take this step, as it would absolutely contradict EU rules.
Meanwhile, the Slovak government stated that the country was well prepared for the cessation of the Russian gas supplies it had been receiving in transit through Ukraine.
