Elena Lasconi, one of the two candidates in the Romanian presidential election, called for support for her candidacy to prevent Romania from returning to Russian influence.
Source Elena Lasconi in her first public speech after the first round of elections, quoted by HotNews.ro and European Pravda Details Lasconi, the leader of the opposition Save Romania Union, warned that the country was in danger with Clin Georgescus sensational victory in the first round.
Quote from Elena Lasconi We find ourselves in a historical confrontation between the past and the future, between the preservation of young Romanian democracy and Putinism, between love for the motherland and those who want to return Romania to the zone of Russian influence.
Lasconi said that Georgescu is an open admirer of Vladimir Putin and openly opposes NATO and the EU.
She called for unity around her to destroy Moscows dreams.
Quote from Elena Lasconi He is for the isolation of Romania, which he calls neutrality.
He wants to destroy everything on which our prosperity rests.
Without NATO, we will be at the mercy of Russia.
If all the reformist forces rally around the Save Romania Union next Sunday, we can prove that we are stronger than what Moscow dreams of.
Lasconi said that her Union for the Rescue of Romania was not perfect, but it had never betrayed the values of the 1989 revolution, and independence from Russia and the European path were its dreams.
With 100 per cent of the votes counted in the first round of the Romanian presidential election, Georgescu unexpectedly came in first place, followed by Lasconi in second.
Georgescu is one of the most vocal propagandists of antiWestern ideas in Romania, arguing that the EU and NATO do not adequately represent Romanian interests and claiming that Russias war in Ukraine is manipulated by US military companies.
Lascni is known for criticising the current Romanian government for its inaction regarding Russian drones that occasionally crash on Romanian territory and has not ruled out a ban on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbn from entering Romania.
