44% of Ukrainians spend less on food – poll

Almost half of Ukrainians 44 say they often try to buy the cheapest products when shopping for food while ignoring their quality.
Source poll conducted on 2026 September 2024 by Ukrainian Centre for Economic and Political Studies named after Oleksandr Razumkov, as reported by InterfaxUkraine Details At the same time, 45 of respondents said they could afford to buy better, though more expensive, products.
Another 11 of respondents could not give a particular answer.
The study also showed that since the beginning of the fullscale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the share of citizens struggling to make their ends meet has increased to 12, compared to 9 in 2021.
At the same time, the share of those who feel secure but cannot afford large purchases has also increased from 6 to 9.
The number of those who live within their own means i.e.
people with middle income but have difficulty buying longlasting goods, such as furniture or household appliances, has decreased from 44 to 41.
Compared to 2005, the share of people living on their salary as single income has increased from 38 to 54, and the share of people receiving their main income from pensions or social benefits has decreased from 38 to 29.
The poll was conducted facetoface only in the territories that are controlled by the government of Ukraine and not subjected to active hostilities.
A total of 2,016 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed.
The samples margin of error does not exceed 2.3. Background 32 of Ukrainian families only have enough money for food, and they struggle to buy clothes.
