The documentary film 2000 Meters to Andriivka by Mstyslav Chernov, the animated documentary I Died in Irpin by Anastasiia Falileieva, and the fiction film Rock, Paper, Scissors by Franz Böhm have been shortlisted for the 2026 Academy Awards.

Details : The finalists will be announced on 22 January 2026 and the awards ceremony will take place on 15 March.

2000 Meters to Andriivka was shortlisted in the Documentary Feature Film category. It did not make the shortlist for the International Feature Film category, to which Ukraine had also submitted the film.

The documentary tells the story of the small village of Andriivka, located 10 km from the war-torn town of Bakhmut. Chernov and Oleksandr Babenko move along the front lines with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, filming Ukrainian defenders as they attempt to liberate Andriivka.

Chernov's previous film, 20 Days in Mariupol, won the Academy Award for Documentary Feature Film at the 2024 Oscars.

The animated film I Died in Irpin was shortlisted in the Animated Short Film category. The director tells her own story of travelling to Irpin with her boyfriend on the morning of Russia's full-scale invasion in order to be with his parents. The film is 11 minutes long and features animation created from charcoal drawings.

Previously, the film was recognised as Best Short Film at the European animation awards, the Emile Awards.

The Live Action Short Film category includes Rock, Paper, Scissors by British-German director Franz Böhm. The film stars Ukrainian actors Oleksandr Rudynskyi, Serhii Kalantai, Oleksandr Yatsenko and Yurii Radionov.
