Kremlin rejects proposals for Christmas ceasefire

Russia has rejected a proposal for a ceasefire on the front line over the Christmas holidays.
Source: Dmitry Peskov, a spokesperson for Putin, cited by Russian outlet Interfax
Details: Russian representative stated that the Russian Federation allegedly doesn't want "a ceasefire that would give Kyiv a respite and an opportunity to prepare for continuing the war, but a full-fledged peace".
According to Peskov, Moscow's position "is well known both in the US and in Ukraine".
The Kremlin representative stressed that Russia wants to achieve its goals.
Quote: "Right now, the question is whether we are moving towards, as President Trump says, an agreement or not… If the Ukrainians have, and are beginning to have, a desire to substitute moving towards an agreement with instant, unviable solutions, then we are hardly ready to take part in this."
Background:
- Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz proposed that Russia introduce a ceasefire at Christmas, expressing the hope that the Russian authorities "have some remnants of humanity and can leave people in peace for a few days".
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine and the US have supported the idea of a ceasefire at Christmas and New Year, but that everything depends on the political will of the Russian Federation.
