Details: Zelenskyy noted that discussions with the US on the draft security guarantees for Ukraine are ongoing.
Quote from Zelenskyy: "It's important that the US perceives [security guarantees for Ukraine] as being equivalent to NATO's Article 5. We're currently working to get everything written down. And we are making progress. I've seen the details from the military people who are working on them. They look decent, even though this is only the first draft."
More details: In this context, Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of determining who would monitor the ceasefire, if established, and what sanctions there would be for any violations.
"It's important for us all to agree that we must work on this," he added.
Background:
- An anonymous US official previously told Sky News that "90% of issues" between Ukraine and Russia were resolved during the Ukraine-US talks in Berlin.
- The official said progress has been made on security guarantees for Ukraine based on NATO's Article 5, but cautioned that these guarantees would not be permanent.
- Rustem Umierov, Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said he expects that Kyiv and Washington will have agreed on common positions by the end of the day, bringing peace closer.
