No elections until war ends

Elections in precisely this sequence, after a peace agreement, are our only safeguard against a bad deal for us as a country. If elections are held after a ceasefire, the head of state will be maximally interested in the best conditions for Ukraine. Because if the terms of the peace agreement are bad, he will not be re-elected.If elections are held before a ceasefire, having secured the right to power for 5 years, the head of state is objectively less interested in the terms of the peace agreement. His main task – to be re-elected – is accomplished. Other matters are not as significant for politicians and their staff. Therefore, Putin can expect to end the war on his terms."Besides, elections carry risks of instability. Currently, all elections in the world are very radical and with a 50/50 split in votes. There is a very high probability that it will be the same for us."Imagine that elections took place in our country, Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi reached the second round, and Zelenskyy won with a result of 51/49%. Could such a result be real? In my opinion, absolutely. Will the losing side accept such a result? Given the radical division of Zelenskyy's supporters and opponents, it's not a given that they will accept such election results. And this will be a problem that could bury the country.By the way, if there are elections, it's not a given that the choice will be between Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi! When we predict Zelenskyy and Zaluzhnyi, we are reasoning as sensible people. But there is also the factor of the wise voter, to whom Putin will sell one of his candidates through Chinese TikTok! Just as our wise voter loves to watch military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine being beaten and cut in TikTok, the wise voter will love Putin's candidate there. They will slip us some Arestovich or Alkhim, or, most likely, someone we don't even know yet, and they will promise to end the war. And then Putin will speak and say that this candidate is good and he will definitely agree with him to end the war.And believe me, I have great doubts that Zelenskyy or Zaluzhnyi will defeat such a candidate. Because people are foolish and want to believe in the best. They will believe Putin, because they will believe even the bald devil, just so there is no war. And such devils as Putin know very well how to talk to foolish people so that they do what he wants. "And then we will get a government that will negate all the years of struggle for independence, all the sacrifices of our brothers-in-arms, everything we have experienced together, and will surrender our country to Putin without a fight. And we will cease to exist."That is why, because elections are objectively impossible under such conditions, the wise people who wrote the Constitution of Ukraine foresaw that elections are impossible during wartime. So that none of the politicians who might suddenly be in power in such a situation would have the desire to bury the country for the sake of winning elections. I believe the main political legacy of President Zelenskyy will be the outcome of the war. Not the conduct of the war, but its conclusion, the result. It will be fair if, in the post-war elections, people evaluate the work of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and, depending on this result, either re-elect him or not. This will be honest and correct. Therefore, no elections until the end of the war.SourceAbout the author: Serhii Marchenko, labor market expert, blogger, serviceman. The editorial board does not always share the opinions expressed by blog authors.
