Rostyslav Khotyn, international editor of Radio Svoboda, stated this on Espreso TV."America is making two huge geopolitical mistakes. First, by pushing away Ukraine—pro-American Ukraine, pro-Western Ukraine. Ukraine has always considered America a strategic partner. America supported Ukraine's independence and its freedom. And now there are such flirtations with Russia against the backdrop of war, against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. Now, at this time, this American attempt to be so impartial, equidistant, not to see good and evil, black and white—this can play into anti-American sentiments in Ukraine, and they have not disappeared. It is clear that after the Maidan, after the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine, sympathies for America were very strong, bolstered by the assistance that the American leadership provided to Ukraine. But anti-American sentiments, though suppressed, can easily be fanned by Russia when it wants to. All of this has not disappeared. Petro Symonenko—leader of the Communist Party of Ukraine, Natalia Vitrenko—leader of the Progressive Socialists, Viktor Medvedchuk—a pro-Russian politician who fled to Russia," he said.Rostyslav Khotyn noted that they worked to fan anti-American sentiments in Ukraine, to cultivate anti-Americanism. And now, with such a policy, America is pushing Ukraine away."I will not be surprised if Russia can use this again in the future, fanning anti-American sentiments. The second point where America is making a huge mistake now is pushing Europe away. America under Donald Trump is simply grinding Europe's face in the dirt—this is a huge mistake. This is not even a geopolitical mistake, it is geopolitical suicide. This is not just sawing off the branch on which America sits and on which its security is based; this is cutting down the entire trunk of the tree that bears fruit for America and the West as a whole. Anti-American sentiments in Europe will not disappear. You don't have to look far—Putin very actively fanned anti-Americanism in Europe at the beginning of his term. And even now, Russian attempts have not disappeared. Europe was not always as pro-American as it is now, wanting to cooperate. Europe also had President Jacques Chirac in France, Gerhard Schröder in Germany, and Silvio Berlusconi in Italy, who was pro-Russian. All these new Chiracs can return to Europe with active work from Russia as well, through special operations. But there will no longer be such trust from Europe in America," he noted. The journalist emphasized that with its actions, America is setting up and actually betraying Europe."I am afraid that anti-American sentiments may also intensify in Europe. And they are very strong on the left flank now, where—even paradoxically—pro-Russian sentiments are also very strong, but anti-Americanism has not weathered away. So America is taking for granted now, the Donald Trump administration is taking for granted some kind of pro-American attitude from Europe, some kind of constant stability. But it will not last forever, because there were, as I say, precedents in the past when there were anti-Americans in Europe. The Soviet Union, Soviet red Moscow, and Moscow in Putin's time made maximum efforts to divide America and Europe, to push Americans out of Europe. Now this American administration is doing it itself—constantly pushing Europeans away, constantly criticizing Europeans both fairly and unfairly. This is not just a geopolitical mistake, this is America's geopolitical suicide. Because if America wants to maintain primacy in the future in competition with Russia—and now against the backdrop of all these talks about some kind of partnership, economic cooperation, mutually beneficial cooperation between Moscow and Washington—it has not disappeared that Moscow sees America as an enemy whom they fear and hate. This is simply hidden; it's just impossible to fight on several fronts at once, and Moscow understands this. And I am afraid that such short-sightedness, the attempt to blame Europe for everything—this is a huge geopolitical mistake, this is suicide, I repeat. And Americans are making a huge mistake by taking for granted this friendly attitude from Europe and Ukraine towards themselves. But this may not always last," added Rostyslav Khotyn.
