Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reported that he spoke on Wednesday 10 December with Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

Details : Zelenskyy said that on 10 December he had a telephone conversation with Stubb, adding that his and the Finnish president's "coordination is practically on a daily basis".

"I'm grateful for such serious attention to security issues and for the efforts to bring peace closer. Every day matters now, adding new elements to our joint work with the United States, Europe, and our friends in the G7. The pace is very fast, there are many good ideas, and we must ensure that the peace we achieve is truly long-lasting," the Ukrainian president wrote.

Background :

• Earlier, Zelenskyy announced new conversations and meetings with partners taking place this week.
• This week Stubb expressed the view that, following the diplomatic contacts of recent weeks, a potential agreement to end the Russo-Ukrainian war is "closer than at any time in recent years", though this does not mean it will be reached in the immediate future.
• He also suggested that had Finland and Sweden not managed to join NATO in previous years, they could now have found themselves in the worst geopolitical situation in their history.
