The SBU reported the information on its Telegram channel."SBU officers exposed the Russia-controlled cargo ship at the Odesa commercial port, where it had arrived under the flag of an African country to export a shipment of steel pipes," the statement reads.According to case materials, the vessel's owner was under NSDC sanctions and, to avoid restrictions, frequently changed its name and formal owners from third countries. On the eve of the full-scale war, the vessel entered Sevastopol at least seven times for the purpose of illegally exporting agricultural products in the interests of the Russian Federation. And at the end of January 2021, the cargo ship illegally transported about 7,000 tons of grain from the Ukrainian peninsula to North African countries."During the ship's detention, the captain and 16 other crew members were on board – all citizens of several Middle Eastern countries. During the search of the vessel, voyage plans, pilot cards, cartographic materials, and radio communication inspection logs were found with evidence of illegal entry into ports of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine," the SBU informed.SBU investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under four articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:Part 3 of Article 110-2 (financing of actions committed for the purpose of forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power, changing the boundaries of territory or the state border of Ukraine);Part 1 of Article 111 (high treason);Article 291 (violation of transport safety rules);Parts 2, 3 of Article 332-1 (violation of the procedure for entry into and exit from temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine). The vessel has now been seized for subsequent transfer to the National Agency of Ukraine for Finding, Tracing and Management of Assets Derived from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA).
