A member of the UK Armed Forces died in Ukraine on the morning of 9 December after being injured in an accident.

Details: The Ministry of Defence said the British soldier was injured "in a tragic accident whilst observing Ukrainian forces test a new defensive capability, away from the front lines".

Quote: "The family has been notified and our thoughts are with them at this sad and difficult time."

Background:

• A Polish citizen, seven-year-old Amelia, was killed in a Russian strike on the Ukrainian city of Ternopil on the night of 18-19 November.
• Two workers recently died in Latvia while installing pontoons on the border with Russia.
