Keith Kellogg, US President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for Ukraine, has said that a deal to end the war in Ukraine is "really close", and its conclusion is dependent on resolving two main outstanding issues: the future of Donbas and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

Details: Kellogg, who will leave his post in January, said that efforts to resolve the war are on "the last 10 metres", which he described as always the most difficult.

He pointed out that the two main unresolved issues are on territory – primarily the future of Donbas – and the future of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, currently controlled by Russia.

"If we get those two issues settled, I think the rest of the things will work out fairly well," Kellogg said.

He added that the scale of deaths and injuries caused by Russia's war against Ukraine is "horrific" and unprecedented for a regional war.

• On 6 December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone conversation with representatives of the Ukrainian and US negotiating teams working to end the Russo-Ukrainian war.
