Details: Sybiha, who was invited to take part in the Ukraine-NATO Council held on the sidelines of the Alliance's ministerial meeting, stressed that he had secured pledges in Brussels to finance weapons procurement worth US$1bn.
"We have around one billion dollars in additional confirmations from our allies to support our army, the Ukrainian soldier, through the PURL programme," he said.
According to Sybiha, compared with previous meetings he has attended, the gathering of NATO foreign ministers on 3 December was "the most productive in terms of contributions and decisions by member states for our defence".
"The discussion was very substantive. Concrete points were raised, as well as the need for practical action right now to stabilise the front and strengthen Ukraine's position at the negotiating table," he explained.
Background:
- Norway announced in Brussels that it would provide another half-billion dollars for US-made weapons for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
- It is also known that Germany will allocate additional funds for these purchases; moreover, Canada will contribute a further US$200 million, and Poland has also pledged support, though its contribution has not yet been disclosed. The full list of donors is longer.
