German foreign minister says Putin keeps seeking new excuses not to talk about peace

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has accused Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin of being unwilling to hold talks on ending the war against Ukraine.

Details: During a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in Berlin, Wadephul said that Putin is "always looking for new excuses for why he does not want to negotiate".
Quote: "That is why I still have doubts as to whether he is seriously ready to talk about peace at all."
More details: The head of the German foreign ministry said that a day earlier, he had a lengthy phone call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which both sides agreed on the need for a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Commenting on the visit of US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, Wadephul said that Russia may also be interested in "re-examining whether a solution is possible" to the war it has launched.
