He had previously served in the British military in the Middle East. The suspect is in custody. An unknown attacker, disguised as a delivery courier, approached Parubiy and fired approximately eight shots. Parubiy received fatal injuries and died at the scene. The killer escaped on an electric bicycle, disguised as a Glovo courier.Less than two days after the killing, law enforcement identified a suspect. The suspect was tracked in Khmelnytskyi Oblast. Around 1 a.m. on September 1, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the probable killer of Andriy Parubiy was detained in a joint police and SBU operation in Khmelnytskyi Oblast. That same day, September 1, he was officially charged with intentional murder.The day before, media reports suggested a motive: allegedly, Russian intelligence offered the suspect the body of his missing son in exchange for killing the Ukrainian politician.On Tuesday, September 2, the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv placed Mykhailo Stelnikov in pretrial detention for 60 days without bail. He faces life imprisonment.Murder of linguist and former Ukrainian MP Iryna FarionOn Friday, July 19, an attempt was made on the life of Lviv Polytechnic professor Iryna Farion in Lviv. An unknown person shot her in the head with a firearm.Later it became known that Iryna Farion was in a deep brain coma on artificial lung ventilation, but doctors were fighting for her life. However, within an hour, the doctors were forced to announce the sad news: Iryna Farion died in the hospital.After the politician's death, the crime was reclassified under Part 1 of Article 115 (premeditated murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.Almost the entire police force of the city, partly from the Lviv region, is involved in the investigation, as well as operatives and investigative teams from Kyiv, led by deputies of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine. A number of examinations have been ordered, including ballistics.
