Netherlands deploys air defense systems to Poland to safeguard Ukraine aid hub

The Dutch Defense Ministry reported the information.The mission began on December 1 and will last until June 1, 2026. The main task is to protect the strategically important hub that ensures the supply of weapons to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.Two Patriot systems for protection against ballistic missiles, one NASAMS for engaging targets at medium and low altitudes, and approximately 300 Dutch servicemen were sent to Poland.The Ministry of Defense notes that the Dutch contribution focuses on an integrated unit with three different capabilities. In addition to both Patriot systems, it includes a NASAMS air defense system and anti-drone systems. With this, the Netherlands, together with its partners, provides multi-layered air defense. It will be deployed against potential threats from ballistic and cruise missiles, fighter jets, helicopters, and drones.Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans emphasized that such a reinforcement of air defense demonstrates the allies' readiness to protect NATO's eastern flank and ensure the security of supplies to Ukraine.The Netherlands announced its intention to deliver a layered air defense system to eastern Poland on September 10.On Monday, December 1, Ukraine and the Netherlands concluded an agreement on the joint production of unmanned systems in both countries.
