Details: Suspension of operations followed reports received by Moldovan authorities about a drone attack on the city of Bolhrad in Ukraine's south.
A statement from the Border Police said that Ukraine's Air Force had detected drones on the radar over Ukrainian territory at 01:20, moving from Reni towards Bolhrad. Meanwhile, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine announced that Bolhrad was being attacked by Shahed drones.
Border patrols at Cișmichioi, Copceac and Vulcănești reported several explosions over the Ukrainian city between 01:15 and 01:30 and said that air defence systems were responding.
Under these circumstances, all border sectors in southern Moldova were put on high alert and began continuous monitoring of the airspace along the border.
The all-clear in Ukraine was given at 02:01 and movement through the Reni-Giurgiulești checkpoint was immediately resumed.
Authorities stated that Moldova's airspace had not been violated and that no risks to residents in the border area had been recorded.
Background :
- Earlier, it was confirmed that two Russian drones involved in the 28-29 November attack on Ukraine had passed through Moldova's airspace.
- The closure of the Moldovan capital's airport for over an hour disrupted three flights arriving at or departing from Chișinău.
- A previous incursion of Russian drones into Moldova's airspace took place on 25 November, when Moldova's military surveillance systems detected six drones in the country's airspace; one of them "landed" on the roof of a building in a rural area. A drone also flew deep into Romanian territory, more than 100 km from the border with Ukraine.
