Details : According to a Bloomberg source, the Ukrainian delegation is expected to stay in Florida, where meetings will take place with US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Bloomberg also noted that Witkoff is expected to visit Moscow next week. The agency added that although Washington is reporting progress in negotiations with Ukraine, the talks still face the same obstacles as before: what is acceptable to Ukraine is not acceptable to Russia and vice versa.
In addition, Bloomberg emphasised that the Ukrainian delegation's visit comes at a delicate moment, as Ukraine is dealing with a corruption scandal that has led to the resignation of Andrii Yermak, the head of the Office of the President.
Background:
- Axios previously reported that Yermak himself was due to travel to the US for negotiations on a "peace agreement".
- On 25 November US President Donald Trump said he had instructed Steve Witkoff and US Secretary of the Army Dan Driscoll to finalise the terms of a proposed "peace agreement" with Russia and Ukraine; Witkoff is expected to travel to Moscow, and if the process reaches the final stage, Trump intends to meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
- There have also been media reports that during his visit to Kyiv to present the 28-point "peace plan", Driscoll warned Western diplomats that the missile threat from Russia extends beyond Ukraine, effectively promoting a "quick settlement" of the war.
