Background:
- Putin has repeatedly claimed that Zelenskyy is not a legitimate president and cannot take part in peace talks as a representative of Ukraine. US President Donald Trump has said such accusations from Moscow are merely "posturing" in the context of negotiations.
- Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said earlier that Moscow has received the "main parameters of the peace plan" intended to halt Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
- As European Pravda reported, on 25 November, Trump said he had instructed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to finalise the terms of the "peace deal" between Russia and Ukraine. Witkoff will travel to Moscow, and if the process reaches its final stage of preparation, Trump will meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy.
- Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has said earlier that a meeting between the Ukrainian and US negotiating teams on ending the Russo-Ukrainian war is expected in the near future.
