Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has congratulated his US counterpart Donald Trump on the American holiday of Thanksgiving.

Details: He thanked the United States for "all the support, which has saved so many lives in Ukraine and helps us defend our independence each day".

"We are very glad that our relationship is constructive and look forward to further positive progress in diplomacy – to finally end for good Russia's war against our people," the Ukrainian president noted.

Zelenskyy also said he hopes for a just peace and stressed that guaranteed security would be a shared achievement for Ukraine and the United States.

Background:

• On 25 November, Trump said he has instructed Special Envoy Witkoff and US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll to finalise the terms of the "peace deal" between Russia and Ukraine. Witkoff will travel to Moscow, and if the process reaches the final stage, Trump will meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin and Zelenskyy.
• On 27 November, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that a meeting between the Ukrainian and US negotiating teams on resolving the Russo-Ukrainian war is expected in the near future.
