Details: The latest attempt by the US President Donald Trump administration to revive negotiations includes a plan outlining Russia's long-standing demands on Ukraine – demands Kyiv has repeatedly called unacceptable.
A person familiar with the matter said the proposal includes requiring Ukraine to hand over to the Kremlin parts of Donbas currently controlled by Ukrainian forces, as well as lifting sanctions against Russia and stopping investigations into war crimes committed by Russia during its bloody full-scale invasion.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has received signals from the United States that he should agree to the deal developed in consultation with Moscow, a person familiar with the issue said.
Trump supports the plan, a senior US official said.
"Nevertheless, the president and his team never gives up, and the United States has been working on a detailed and acceptable plan for both sides to stop the killing and create a durable, lasting peace," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said.
Background:

- The Financial Times reported that the peace plan to end the war in Ukraine envisages, among other things, handing all of Donbas to Russia, giving up certain categories of weaponry, cutting the size of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in half and recognising Russian as a state language.
- Kaja Kallas, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said the European Union welcomes efforts to end the war in Ukraine, but any such plan must involve Ukraine and Europe.
