Details: On Wednesday 19 November, Tusk briefed Zelenskyy on information from his law enforcement agencies and intelligence services regarding the recent sabotage on the Polish railway.
"Telegram social platform was used to arrange subversions and launch a disinformation campaign against Ukraine," Zelesnkyy wrote.
He noted that similar subversive actions are carried out against Ukraine every day, including on the railway. The president added that Ukrainian state-run railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) has introduced appropriate measures to counter such sabotage.
Quote: "Our information is the same: all the facts indicate that there is a Russian trace behind all of this. No one except the Russians is interested in this. Ukraine is ready to work with Poland at various levels and to share all information."
Details: Zelenskyy and Tusk agreed to set up a Ukrainian-Polish group that will work on preventing similar Russian actions in the future.
"We appreciate all of Poland's assistance and are always ready to work together to jointly protect lives and counter all possible subversions and challenges," Zelenskyy said.
During the call, Tusk also expressed his condolences over those who had been killed in Ternopil and the dozens injured in other regions of Ukraine as a result of Russian drone and missile attacks.
Background:
- On 18 November, during his address to the Sejm, Tusk said that the investigation alleges the perpetrators of the sabotage on the Polish railway to be two Ukrainian citizens cooperating with Russian intelligence services. They entered Poland from Belarus and managed to leave after carrying out the sabotage.
- He said Poland would demand the detention and extradition of the suspects.
- Ukraine's Foreign Ministry noted that Russia deliberately recruits people who hold Ukrainian citizenship for such actions.
- The Warsaw-Lublin railway section, where the sabotage was committed, is of strategic importance for assistance to Ukraine.
- On 19 November, Poland decided to close the Russian consulate in Gdańsk, the last functioning one in the country, following two acts of sabotage on the railway between Lublin and Warsaw.
