This is stated in a communiqué from the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).The U.S. State Department supported the move, and the agency granted the appropriate permission for the sale of the equipment to Ukraine, also notifying Congress. The decision was made after Ukraine had previously sent a request to purchase goods and services related to Patriot maintenance, including items necessary for upgrading M901 launchers to the M903 standard. The procurement cost of $105 million is a preliminary "upper limit" estimate."This proposed sale will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by improving the security of a partner country that is a force for political stability and economic progress in Europe," the communiqué states. The principal contractors for the potential deal will be the American defense companies RTX Corporation and Lockheed Martin.Implementation of the proposed sale will require the assignment of approximately five additional U.S. government representatives and 15 representatives from U.S. companies to the European Command for a period of up to one month to support training and periodic meetings, the statement says. It is also noted that the sale of the equipment will not have a negative impact on U.S. defense readiness.
