Details: Sánchez said that €300 million of this sum is earmarked for implementing the security agreement under which Spain had agreed to allocate €1 billion a year in military support for Ukraine.
A further €100 million will be provided under the PURL initiative, which enables NATO member states to purchase weapons for Ukraine from the United States.
Additional €215 million will be channelled through the EU's SAFE instrument, which will fund the procurement of anti-drone equipment, radars and other systems, including equipment produced by Spanish companies.
President Zelenskyy said that the package will include, in particular, missiles for air defence systems, specifically forty missiles for IRIS-T systems.
Background:
- Earlier on 18 November, Zelenskyy met with representatives of Spanish defence companies and they discussed joint projects.
- Commenting on his visit to Spain, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is working to ensure that a meeting with Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez "brings agreements that will give us greater strength".
