Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko discussed the issue on his Telegram channel.A new analysis suggests that Russia is rapidly accelerating its battlefield robotics program, learning from past high-profile failures like the dysfunctional Uran-9 complex. The focus of the warning is the NRTK Courier, a ground robotic complex that has seen "alarming" advances since its first appearance on the front lines. When first verified in the Avdiivka sector in March 2024, the Courier was described by Kovalenko as a "chaotic creation," essentially a transport platform crudely armed with an AGS-17 grenade launcher. However, its development did not stall. By April, Russian forces had already demonstrated new modifications, adapting the drone for minelaying, logistics transport, and medical evacuation, with these variants being supplied more frequently through the second half of 2024.Kovalenko reports that as of today, the Courier has "evolved significantly." The latest models are more balanced, and crucially, have been equipped with a fiber-optic cable spool. This upgrade makes the drone highly resistant to electronic warfare (EW) jamming by providing a stable, physical connection to its operator. Most concerning are the platform's new lethal upgrades. Its 7.62-mm PKT machine gun now features "significantly improved stabilization and quality of fire." Furthermore, Kovalenko notes that engineers have successfully mounted a battery of eight to ten Shmel reactive infantry flamethrowers—better known as thermobaric rocket launchers—onto the chassis."The enemy is not standing still, but is evolving," Kovalenko concluded, stating that the pace of the Courier's development in just one year is "truly alarming."Russian forces are reportedly resorting to obsolete, 1970s-era Soviet missiles for critical air defense systems, signaling a severe depletion of modern ammunition stockpiles.
