Details: The film will be screened in the Ukrainian pavilion and dedicated to the devastating impact of Russia's aggression on Ukraine's natural environment.
"This film is the result of three years of work by our team... We shot Divia during the full-scale war," said Hreshko at the earlier premiere in Karlovy Vary. "Thanks to everyone defending Ukraine, the film has seen the light of day. I thank them for their courage and for the opportunity to make films even in dark times. I dedicate the film to the filmmakers who died defending our land. They are part of our memory, culture and truth. They are not forgotten. Glory to Ukraine."
The documentary features landscapes of ecological parks in frontline oblasts, liberated territories and the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant, whose reservoir has turned into a steppe. Most of the footage was filmed using drones.
The film's title comes from the name of the Slavic goddess of nature and mother of all living things.
Quote from UP.Culture film critic Sonia Vseliubska: "And yet, the film would be too pessimistic if Hreshko aimed only to show tragedy – it also focuses on renewal and rebirth. Divia reveals the phenomenal ability of nature to bring forth new life even where everything seems dead.
It is about people clearing the land of mines, plants sprouting in fields strewn with missile wreckage, and animals trying to find a place of peace. All this gives a sense of hope – that there is something stronger than absolute evil, and that humanity is certainly weaker than the power of nature."
