G7 ministers' meeting to start with discussion on support for Ukraine – Canada's foreign minister

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand has announced that one of the key topics at the meeting of G7 foreign ministers in Canada will be further support for Ukraine.

Details : Anand added that after this, G7 foreign ministers and invited representatives from several other countries will discuss critical minerals, energy security and economic resilience.
She said that the participants will also talk about "advancing long-term peace and stability in the Middle East, supporting security and building prosperity in the Indo-Pacific, and responding to urgent crises in Haiti and Sudan".

Background :
- Earlier, Anand announced that her country is accelerating the payment of the final portion of its CAD 70 million contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund. Canada paid CAD 10 million early to help Ukraine repair critical energy infrastructure damaged by Russian strikes.
- The energy and environment ministers of the G7 countries condemned Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy system and pledged to work towards meeting the country's energy needs following a two-day meeting in Toronto.
