Reuters reported the information.According to reports from the state-run RIA news agency, the FSB claims Ukrainian military intelligence, with British involvement, attempted to recruit Russian pilots with an offer of $3 million and European citizenship. The plan, as described by the Russian security service, was for the defecting pilot to fly the advanced fighter jet to a NATO airbase in Constanta, Romania. The FSB, the primary successor to the KGB, also alleged that the plot may have been a "large-scale provocation," suggesting the hijacked aircraft could have been shot down by air defenses upon its approach."The measures taken have thwarted the Ukrainian and British intelligence services’ plans for a large-scale provocation," RIA cited the FSB as saying. To support its claims, Russian state television broadcasted images of text messages and audio recordings, allegedly showing a man identified as a Ukrainian intelligence operative making the $3 million offer to a Russian pilot. Reuters noted it could not independently verify the account. The Kinzhal missile, a centerpiece of the alleged plot, is an air-launched ballistic weapon that Moscow claims is hypersonic. Its high speed and maneuvering capabilities are designed to make it exceptionally difficult for air defense systems to intercept. The allegation lands amid deep-seated tensions between Moscow and London. Russia has persistently accused Britain of playing a central role in stoking the war and aiding Ukrainian operations inside Russia. In turn, Britain characterizes Russia's invasion as an "imperial-style landgrab" and has repeatedly warned of Russian intelligence efforts to undermine European democracy.
