Details: The provision is included in a submission from the Ministry of Finance for the final discussion of the 2026 budget draft in the Budget Committee.
Last week, government sources said that the additional funds are intended for artillery, drones and armoured vehicles, as well as for replacing two Patriot surface-to-air missile systems.
The Bundestag's Budget Committee will convene on Thursday for the so-called final session to make the finishing adjustments to the 2026 budget draft.
Background:
- As previously reported, sources close to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz believe the government will be able to withstand opposition calls to halt support for Ukraine amid investigative reports alleging Ukrainian involvement in the Nord Stream pipeline explosions.
- German investigators reportedly believe that a group of Ukrainians who allegedly blew up the Nord Stream pipelines in the Baltic Sea acted under the direction of then-Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
