Bloomberg reported the information.Ambassador Olha Stefanishyna said that despite previous setbacks, discussions regarding significant new military capabilities from the United States are moving forward.“The discussion is still ongoing but we have a lot of delegations working to scale up the available financial resources to procure more military capabilities from the U.S.,” Stefanishyna said. The ambassador specified that Kyiv’s wish list is not limited to one system, as Ukraine seeks weapons that would allow it to hit targets deep within Russian territory.“It is not only Tomahawks but different types of other long-range and short-range missiles and I can only say that it’s rather positive,” she said. This diplomatic push continues even after President Trump indicated he did not want to send those specific weapons to Ukraine. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has prioritized the acquisition of long-range missiles, but Trump has publicly stated that Tomahawks "can only be effective if the U.S. fires them," and that the U.S. is not going to do so.The urgency for new weaponry comes as Russia continues its assault on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure ahead of winter. When asked about the recent attacks on the energy grid, Stefanishyna described the situation as difficult.“It’s definitely a very tough period for Ukraine,” she said. “We’re working hard to provide more air-defense capabilities to Ukraine.”The ambassador stressed that while the country can endure, the status quo is unacceptable. “We can survive this winter and another winter, but it does not mean that it is right.”She warned that any refusal to put pressure on Russia will be seen as “something that gives them the green light to scale up their capabilities.”On October 13, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he might transfer Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine if Russian dictator Vladimir Putin does not stop the war. At the end of the month, it was reported that the Pentagon had approved the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, assessing that such a decision would not affect the depletion of U.S. stockpiles. At the beginning of November, Donald Trump stated that his administration is not currently considering the transfer of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
