IAEA reports on consequences of Russian attacks on critical substations of Ukrainian nuclear power plants

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated that Russian forces have attacked key substations supplying Ukraine-controlled nuclear power plants, leading to a reduction in the output of at least one of the plant's reactors.

Details: IAEA teams at the Pivdennoukrainsk Nuclear Power Plant and Khmelnytskyi Nuclear Power Plant (KhNPP) reported that each of these stations had lost access to one of their external power lines.
In addition, the IAEA team at the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant reported that the station had reduced the output of two of its four reactors at the request of the system operator.
The IAEA team at the KhNPP was also forced to take shelter in a hotel for several hours this morning due to the attack.
Background:
- Russian forces attacked railway infrastructure in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts, targeting a passenger depot in the latter.
- Eleven people were injured, including four children, in a Russian drone attack on the city of Sumy.
