Maria Ionova, Ukrainian lawmaker and head of the subcommittee on legislative support for the state's strategic course towards EU and NATO membership, stated this on Espreso TV."When we talk about defense capabilities, it is worth noting that Ukraine, even without formal membership, is gradually integrating into European security structures. We are currently planning joint operations, intelligence sharing, and joint training. Personnel are being trained to use modern defense technologies, and new industrial production opportunities are being launched. Our manufacturers strive to adhere to European and NATO standards," noted Ionova.According to the head of the subcommittee, Ukraine is becoming a platform for strengthening coordination with the EU – from arms supplies to joint programs for the development of air defense and the military industry."It is especially important to emphasize the development of air defense, because the sooner we control the sky, the more effectively we will protect our military. Air defense is identified as the number one priority at all meetings. At the same time, we understand that the enemy is improving its weapons and methods of controlling the sky, so it is important to strengthen cooperation with European partners. We see the enemy's provocations and testing of NATO forces, and in this context, sanctions policy is also a powerful step," Ionova added.Ukraine and Sweden have agreed on intentions to implement a large-scale program for the purchase of up to 150 modern JAS 39 Gripen E fighters for the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
